Poems for the Season

POEMS FOR THE SEASON

'Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord' (Luke 2:10 -11)

All heaven waits
In quiet anticipation,
Through centuries
Of growing revelation ...

Now sings God’s choir
With thunderous exultation,
Now shepherds run
With joyous expectation,
Now wise men kneel
In humble adoration:

Immanuel.
The Son is born.

'In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God ... and the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory ... full of grace and truth' (John 1:1,14).

The God of love
Has come down
Into a stable bare,
And clothed himself
with human flesh
In that new baby there.
So small.
So weak.
How can it be
That here we see
Eternity?

'For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life' (John 3:16).
