WHAT IS GOD LIKE?#8 CREATORCopyright Rosemary Bardsley 2007The Bible introduces God to us as our Creator. 'In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth ... ' (Genesis 1:1). This portrayal of God as Creator persists right through the Bible:
To know God as Creator endows life with significance and structure, purpose and hope. It is to have a firm foundation in the midst of apparent meaninglessness and chaos. In the presence of this God, the Creator of all, any questions about 'which god should I worship?' are answered in a final way. In the presence of this God, who is our Creator, any questions about our human identity and our human responsibility are also answered in a final way. To know this God, this Creator, is to know both how we are here and why we are here. It is to be assured that in all the seeming randomness, emptiness and meaninglessness there is direction, there is significance, and there is an ultimate goal and an ultimate, good and final outcome. The magnificence and power, the intricacy and complexity, of the created world, clearly reveal that its Creator is a Being of order and design in the highest degree. Every created thing has its place and its purpose. Every individual part of every created thing has its place and its purpose. From the macro solar systems to the micro DNA particles there is overwhelming evidence of order and purpose. This God, this Creator, is the God whom we can trust, the God whose promises we can depend on, the God whose commands we can accept as necessary, the God into whose hands we can safely commit both our lives and our futures.
